Business Response: Initial Business Response /* (1000, 9, 2014/12/04) */ BBB met with Mr. ******. The business presented the original proposal given to the customer which showed $1450 for Kitchen walls and ceiling (paint) Bath (Paint) Bedroom walls and woodwork (Paint) Living room walls (Paint) Bedroom (paint) Sunroom (repair walls and paint) There was an additional $1000 for Spanish finish on walls and textured ceiling, as well as repair hole in ceiling. The total was $2450. BBB heard a recording of a phone message where the consumer expressed he dissatisfaction with the dust that was left. The consumer stated the painting was satisfactory, but that he was firing the contractor from the job. He asked that the contractor come in the afternoon to pick up his work supplies. The consumer was to pay for the completed work and would present a check when owner came out to jobsite. A second proposal was agreed upon for $1850 that only included the painting of other rooms and kitchen ceiling repair. The kitchen was not painted. The consumer presented the business owner with a cashiers check which later was determined by the bank to be invalid and possibly illegal. The business owner went back the next day and the consumer gave him a check that was $450 less than the agreed upon amount (second proposal). The business owner believes he has gone over and above for the consumer by providing additional work and services that were not agreed upon. He also disagrees that the worksite was left unclean, with the exception of the time the consumer's wife said she would clean up. The business owner considers the job complete for the amount the consumer has paid. No additional work will be done.
