BBB Alert on Timeshare Purchasing Company

December 11, 2013

Investigation of Country Club Timeshares

Birmingham, AL December 11, 2013- The Better Business Bureau of Central Alabama and the Wiregrass has conducted an investigation into a timeshare purchasing company. The business name is Country Club Timeshares, and claims to be located in Mountain Brook, AL.

BBB’s investigation into this business began due to a spike in inquiries received by consumers from across the country. BBB received over fifty inquiries in three weeks. Upon arriving at the address the business claims, BBB investigator found that the address is for a UPS Store location, one which the business does not have a mailbox.

BBB of Central Alabama has attempted to contact the business by phone and mail to discuss our concerns, and to date, has not received a response from the business.

Country Club Timeshares makes unsolicited contact with timeshare owners across the country informing them of a buyer who is prepared to purchase their timeshare. The business sends the consumer a signed purchase offer for their property via email. The business then requests that the closing costs owed by the seller/property owner be wired to Florida. Of the consumers BBB has spoken with who have wired funds, not surprisingly, the business has requested more funds be sent.

BBB has been in contact with the Mountain Brook Police Department and the Alabama Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division regarding this business.

BBB advises consumers to never wire monies to unknown businesses or individuals, as such transactions can be difficult to trace. BBB warns consumers to be wary of unsolicited purchase offers for often difficult to sell timeshares.
